Located in the heart of the Northeast and within easy driving distance of a third of the population of the United States, Atlantic City is the gaming capital of the Northeast and one of America’s premier resort and entertainment destinations. Settled in 1783, Atlantic City today has a year-round population of 38,000. Atlantic City is just 11.92 square miles long but boasts many historic firsts, such as being the site of the world’s first Boardwalk and salt-water taffy’s first development. The streets of the famed Monopoly board
are named after Atlantic City’s. Atlantic City is 60 miles from Philadelphia, 125 miles from New York and 175 miles from Washington, DC.

BEACH & BOARDWALK
The beach is where it all started: pristine sand with healthy salt air and a developer who
saw the promise it held. Now Atlantic City is one of the world’s favorite destinations and the beach differentiates it from any other gaming locale. During the summer, these free beaches are guarded by the country’s first lifeguard organization and the water is safe thanks to a stringent State water quality program. Millions of guests stroll, ride a bicycle or tour the Boardwalk in a rolling chair or tram car. The first permanent Boardwalk was built in 1870 as a way to keep sand off of hotel carpets. Today, the Boardwalk is more than four miles in length and 60 feet across at its widest points. The present structure is seated on concrete and steel pilings and constructed of thousands of two-by-fours. The boards are replaced approximately every 12 years due to the immense foot traffic.
DINING
Atlantic City is increasingly becoming known for its thriving culinary scene with some of the top chefs in the industry opening restaurants here. The city offers a stunning array of ethnic options, from authentic Chinese and Vietnamese to great south-of-the-border, Italian and Japanese influences. We have an interesting dichotomy with trendy, eclectic establishments rising alongside home-style ‘mom and pop” locales, classic Boardwalk cuisine and one of America’s greatest spots for a sub sandwich, the White House Sub Shop.
SHOPPING
If shopping is your thing, you’ve hit the Jackpot! High-end stores, name brand outlets and traditional Boardwalk options are available in Atlantic City. Tanger Outlets is a 15-city block dining and retail outlet with upscale retailers and downsized prices. At the heart of it is the 86,000 square foot Bass Pro Shops where all your sporting and outdoor needs are met. The Quarter at Tropicana, offers 200,000 square feet of retail, dining, entertainment and spa options. Additional diverse shopping can be found along the Boardwalk and throughout the city’s casinos.
GOLF
Having been ranked among the Top Ten Golf Cities in America by ForbesTraveler.com, Atlantic City is one of the East Coast’s premier golfing destinations with numerous championship-caliber courses surrounding the Atlantic City area, providing a challenge to novice and advanced golfers alike. Besides lining the ocean and bay with pristine greens and pine-bordered fairways, many courses are designed by some of the top course consultants in the country. Some courses making up the Greater Atlantic City Golf Association include: Atlantic City Country Club, Ballamor Golf Club, Blue Heron Pines, Harbor Pines, The Links at Brigantine, McCullough’s Emerald Golf Links, Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club, Twisted Dunes and Shore Gate Golf Club.
ARTS & CULTURE
The Atlantic City area is full of history and locations to celebrate it. Among them: Noyes
Arts Garage of Stockton University, the Civil Rights Garden and the New Jersey
Korean War Memorial. Other notable sites off the Boardwalk include: Absecon
Lighthouse, Historic Gardner’s Basin, nearby historic villages, wineries, zoos and more.
ADVENTURE
Atlantic City’s oceanside location provides ample opportunity for day cruises, sailing,
fishing, boat, canoe or kayak rental. Nearby local, state and national parks such as
Atlantic County Park at Lake Lenape, Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge and
Bass River State Forest offer scenic views, hiking trails, bird-watching and log cabins.
AIRPORT, RAIL & HIGHWAYS
The Atlantic City International Airport is located just minutes from the city and offers shuttle, taxi and rental car transportation.
Philadelphia International Airport is a quick 60 minute drive via the Atlantic City Expressway.
Train
Rail service provided by New Jersey Transit, arrives and departs through the rail terminal immediately adjacent to the Atlantic City Convention Center.
Highway
From the North, major interstate highways connect with the Garden State Parkway South, to the Atlantic City Expressway.
From the South, I-95 to Delaware Memorial Bridge to Route 40 to Route 322. Or via Lewes, Delaware, take the Cape May-Lewes ferry to the Garden State Parkway North to the Atlantic City Expressway.
From the West, via Philadelphia, Walt Whitman Bridge or Ben Franklin Bridge to North-South Freeway to Atlantic City Expressway.
Bus
There is frequent motorcoach service from New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, DC via all major carriers.
Public Transportation
Within the city, everything is readily accessible via public transportation on New Jersey Transit buses. Our ever popular 13 passenger jitneys move the entire length of Pacific Avenue, parallel to Atlantic City's world famous Boardwalk, to the Marina District and to the Convention Center. Taxi service is also available with a maximum fare of $13 per ride between any two points within the city’s borders.
